If you have ADHD but didn't know it for a long time, you may have been misunderstood in the workplace or at university or college. Your behaviour - whether you are restless, impulsive, disorganised or easily distracted - can be seen as being purposely disruptive, when in fact it is unintentional.
You may feel 'stupid' for not doing better at school, university and/or work. These feelings may make you more reactive and likely to have a short fuse.
People with ADHD may be seen to be unmotivated, lazy, self-centred or even slow learners. But when ADHD is properly managed, those affected often show great imagination and creative flair, which are qualities usually welcomed at work, college or university. Adults with treated ADHD feel they can access their strengths more readily and achieve their goals more easily.
There are plenty of successful people with ADHD who enjoy fulfilling and productive lives. They have learned to direct their boundless energy, enthusiasm and creativity to make meaningful contributions to society.
